Before you begin, go to the following links to download the images and fonts used in this tutorial.

  • Wood texture
  • Wood flooring
  • Turkey
  • Champagne
  • Pie
  • Agency FB font
  • Great Vibes font

Step 1

First, go to File > New. Go to Print and select the A4 size document. Leave the DPI at 300.

Step 2

Go to File > Open and drag the image of the wood texture onto the document.

Step 3

With the image selected, grab the Move Tool. Press Shift and rotate the image – 90 degrees.

Step 4

Select the image. Next, go to the Filters menu. Go to Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius to 2.5 px.

Step 5

Now, grab the Rectangle Tool from the Tools Panel. Draw a rectangle that covers the whole flyer. Go to the Swatches Panel and double click the fill color to bring up the Color Chooser. Set the rectangle to the following color #412426. Then, in the Layers Panel, change the Blend Mode to Glow.

Step 6

Next, go to File > Open and drag the image of the wood flooring onto the document.

Step 7

Go to the Transform Panel and turn on the Lock Aspect Ratio. Also, make sure that Snapping is turned on in the Toolbar. Now, grab the Move Tool from the Tools Panel. Take the tool and place the image in the same area you see on the screen. Then, drag the middle area at the bottom down some. In the Layers Panel, set the Blend Mode to Glow.

Step 8

After that, go to File > Open and drag the turkey pic onto the flyer. Place the turkey on top of the wood image. Grab the Move Tool and make the turkey slightly bigger.

Step 9

With the turkey still selected, take the Move Tool and click the thumbnail of the turkey in the Layers Panel. Next, click the Adjustments icon in the Layers Panel and click the Curves adjustment. Drag the adjustment into the turkey layer. Now, add a point in the middle of the curve and drag it up some.

Step 10

Go to File > Open and drag the image of the champagne and the pie onto the flyer.

Step 11

Select the champagne. Place the image on the right side of the turkey. Then, take the Move Tool and resize it.

Step 12

Now, select the pie image. Place it on the left side in front of the turkey. Then, resize it the way you see it on the screen.

Step 13

Grab the Rectangle Tool from the Tools Panel. Draw a rectangle that covers the bottom part of the flyer. Go to the Swatches Panel and double click the fill color to bring up the Color Chooser. Set the rectangle to the following color #3F7C7D.

Step 14

Next, grab the Artistic Text Tool from the Tools Panel. Click the top of the flyer and type Grace Cafe Presents. Go to the Font Family and change the font to whatever you want. The font I used is called Agency FB. Now, go to the Swatches Panel and set the font to the following color #FBFBD5. Take the Move Tool and make the text smaller. Make sure the text is centered on the flyer.

Step 15

After that, press CTRL + J to duplicate the text. Now, type THANKSGIVING in ALL CAPS. Then, go to the Swatches Panel and change the color to the following hex code #E4A45D. Take the Move Tool and make the text bigger. Place the text beneath the original text but move it slightly down. Then, center the text.

Step 16

Now, press CTRL + J to make a duplicate of the current text. Type the word Dinner. Next, go to the Font Family and change the font. I used a script font called Great Vibes. Set the color of the font to the same color as the first text which is #FBFBD5. Then, take the Move Tool and make the text bigger.

Step 17

Grab the Rectangle Tool from the Tools Panel. Draw a rectangle over the word Dinner. Set the color of the rectangle to white. Next, go to the Filters menu. Select Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 100%. Lower the Opacity of the layer to 30% in the Layers Panel.

Step 18

Once you’ve done that, grab the Rectangle Tool again. Draw a rectangle that covers the rectangle we previously drew. Now, press Shift + X to change the stroke color to the fill color. In the Swatches Panel, select the stroke. Double click on it to bring up the Color Chooser. Then, change the color to #DEC479.

Step 19

With the rectangle still selected, go to the Stroke Panel and set the Width of the stroke to 6 pt. Now, press CTRL + J to duplicate it. Then, take the Move Tool and make it slightly smaller.

Step 20

Grab the Artistic Text Tool from the Tools Panel. Set the font to the same font as the word Thanksgiving which is the Agency FB font. Type Thursday, Nov 25.

Step 21

Now, press CTRL + J to duplicate the text layer. Grab the Move Tool, then, press Shift and drag the duplicated text beneath the date. After that, type 6 pm – 8 pm.

Step 22

Press CTRL + J again to duplicate the new text layer. Place it beneath the time. Then, type the following address 4135 Fall Ave Los Angeles, CA.

Step 23

Next, grab the Rectangle Tool from the Tools Panel. Draw a long skinny rectangle and place it beneath the address and move it down some. Then, go to the Swatches Panel and set it to the gold color we used for the stroke border which is #DEC479.

Step 24

Select the address text. Next, press CTRL + J to duplicate the text and drag the duplicate beneath the gold rectangle we just added. Type the word LIVE MUSIC in ALL CAPS. Then, go to the Swatches Panel and set the color of the text to the same color as the Dinner text which is #FBFBD5.

Step 25

With the text layer selected, press CTRL + J three times to make 3 duplicates of the text. Select the first duplicate and type FREE DRINKS. Place the text to the right of the original text. Next, select the second duplicated text and type FREE PARKING. Then, select the third duplicated text and type GOOD FOOD. Place the second and third duplicated text layers in the same area you see on the screen. Now, select all four of the text layers. Go to the Alignment Panel and select Space Vertically.

Step 26

After that, select the gold rectangle. Press and hold CTRL + Shift. Then, take the Move Tool and drag a copy of the rectangle beneath the four text we just added.

Step 27

Now, select one of the 4 text we just added. Press CTRL + J to duplicate it. Then, type the following phone # 213-579-1864. Place this text beneath below the duplicated gold rectangle and underneath the FREE DRINKS text.

Step 28

Duplicate the phone number text by pressing CTRL + J. Place the duplicate underneath the FREE PARKING text and type gracecafe.com.

Step 29

Grab the Rectangle Tool again. Draw a skinny vertical rectangle between the phone number and website text.
