Learn 3D Modeling & Blender with these courses from Udemy. Blender is a free, open-source computer graphics software used to make things in 3D. Blender can create 3D printed models, computer games, motion graphics, animated films, art, visual effects, and interactive 3D applications. It has a plethora of features such as raster graphics editing, sculpting, 3D modeling, compositing, and more.
In the media industry, Man in the High Castle and Annabelle: Creation used Blender to create special effects. In addition, NASA uses Blender to create 3D models.
This course has two instructors: Ben Tristem and Michael Bridges. Ben Tristem is the founder of Game Dev (where you can learn to code by developing games). In addition, he’s also an author, educator, and entrepreneur. Michael Bridges is a technology educator and 3D artist.
In their course, they teach you about Blender’s interface and tools (such as Blender’s snapping and inset tool). Plus, you’ll learn how to use the software. You’ll learn how to render out a scene, light a scene, and add materials to mesh objects. Moreover, you’ll learn how to set up a camera around a model in Blender.
Throughout the course, Ben and Michael teach you how to create 3D models by following the projects in the course with step-by-step instructions. Some of the things you’ll create in this course are an animated lamp, a low poly chess set, a human head, and a bunny. Also, there are two bonuses section in this course. The first bonus section is on destruction and how to use a particle system in Blender to destroy objects. The second bonus section is on video effects (VFX) and Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI). In this section, you’ll combine renders to create a composite, learn about Blender’s camera tracking, and create a CGI and VFX scene.
After finishing the course, you’ll know how to create assets for video games, 3D models (a house, buildings, and a car), and items for 3D printing.
For this course, the instructor is Rob Tuytel. Rob is an environment artist and has used Blender for a little over 12 years. In addition, his 3D artwork can be found in museums, TV, and magazines. Additionally, he even created environment scenes for the Blender Institute’s open movie Tears of Steel.
In Rob’s course, he teaches you Blender’s interface while also teaching you how to create a variety of environments inside of Blender. In the first section, you’ll learn about art techniques that were used by the old art masters. Also, Rob compares his work with those of the old masters, and he showcases the progression of his work throughout a seven-year period.
In addition, you’ll learn how to work with modifiers and UV coordinates in Blender. In another section of the course, Rob teaches you how to design material in Blender using nodes. Moreover, you’ll be working on projects and creating things such as simple/advanced buildings, roads/paths, and nature objects (grass, weeds, trees, rocks, flowers, and twigs). Plus, you’ll learn how to work with light in Blender and how to light a scene. By the end of the course, you will be creating an entire scene from scratch.
With the completion of these two Blender courses, you will learn 3D modeling and Blender. In addition, you will develop or hone 3D modeling skills which you can use to create video games, architectural designs, 3D printing assets and more.
