In this tutorial, we will transform summer to autumn in Affinity Photo. This will allow you to change green landscapes into autumn scenes.
Before you begin the tutorial, go to the following links and download the images.
Step 1
First, go to File > Open and select the first picture you downloaded.
Step 2
Second, go to the Layers panel and click the Adjustments icon. Select the Curves adjustment. Then, bring the right point slightly to the left to add some white to the highlights of the image.
Step 3
Next, go to the Adjustments icon and select the HSL adjustment. Select the Yellow channel. Then, grab the Picker and click on the light area of the leaves on the right side.
Step 4
Now, set the Hue Shift to 30 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 30 percent. Select the node on the right on the color wheel and slide it up slightly. Then, select the node next to it and slide it up some too.
Step 5
With the HSL adjustment still open, select the Green channel. Take the Picker and select the leaves at the bottom on the right. Set the Hue Shift to 40 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 35 percent.
Step 6
After that, select the Cyan channel. Take the Picker and select one of the dull looking leaves from the tree on the right side. Set the Hue Shift to 10 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 5 percent.
Step 7
With the HSL adjustment layer still selected, click on the Mask layer icon to add a mask layer. Make sure the mask layer is inside the HSL adjustment layer.
Step 8
In the Layers panel, select the Mask layer. Then, grab the Paint Brush tool from the Tools panel.
Step 9
Take the brush and mask out some of the red that’s in the grass.
Step 10
Now, go to the Layers panel and click on the Adjustments icon. Select the Curves adjustment. Then, go to the Red channel and increase the red slightly, and decrease the bottom.
Step 11
Next, go to the Green channel. Decrease it slightly.
Step 12
After that, go to the Blue channel. Bring the point on the left slightly up. Then, click and add a point near the middle part of the line and bring this point down. Select the point on the right and bring it down some.
Bonus Steps
Let’s transform summer to autumn by creating adding a yellow gold-ish look to our landscape.
Step 1
Go to File > Open and select the other image you downloaded.
Step 2
Next, click the Adjustments icon and add a Curves adjustment. Bring the left point slightly to the right to add some black to the shadows of the image.
Step 3
Now, go to the Adjustments icon and select the HSL adjustment. Select the Yellow channel. Then, grab the Picker and click on the leaves at the bottom left of the image so that we can target this area.
Step 4
Now, set the Hue Shift to 80 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 10 percent. Then, take the node that’s on the far right on the color wheel and slide it slightly to the right.
Step 5
With the HSL adjustment still open, select the Cyan channel. Take the Picker and select the green-bluish patch of leaves on the right side. Then, set the Hue Shift to 140 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 30 percent.
Step 6
After that, select the Green channel. Take the Picker and select the green leaves that are showing on the right side. Now, set the Hue Shift to 25 degrees and the Saturation Shift to 25 percent.
Step 7
With the HSL adjustment layer still selected, click on the Mask layer icon to add a mask.
Step 8
In the Layers panel, select the Mask layer. Then, grab the Paint Brush tool from the Tools panel.
Step 9
Take the brush and mask out the coloration that occurred on the steps.
Step 10
Now, go to the Layers panel and click on the Adjustments icon. Select the Curves adjustment. Then, go to the Red channel and slightly increase the red. Also, bring the bottom slightly down to balance this out.
Step 11
With the Red channel still up, bring the point on the left slightly to the right. Then, bring the point that’s on the right (at the top) slightly to the left.
Step 12
Next, go to the Green channel and decrease it slightly.
Step 13
Then, go to the Blue channel. Bring the left point slightly up and bring the point on the right slightly down.
Step 14
In the Layers panel, select the Curves adjustment layer at the top. Click the Mask layer icon to add a mask to this.
Step 15
Select the mask layer. Then, grab the Paint Brush tool from the Tools panel. Take the brush and go over the steps again to remove the coloration caused by the curves adjustment we added.
