January 22, 2020Vintage Photo Effect in Affinity Photo
In today’s tutorial, we will be creating a vintage photo effect using Affinity Photo. This tutorial will allow you to give any photo a retro look!
Before you start the tutorial, download the picture of the van and the brown canvas.
Step 1
First, go to File > Open and select the image of the van.
Step 2
Next, go to the Adjustment Panel. Select Black & White adjustment.
Step 3
Now, go to the Adjustment Panel again. This time select Levels adjustment.
Step 4
In the Levels adjustment, take the Black Level slider and slide it slightly to the right.
Step 5
Then, take the White Level slider and slide it slightly to the left.
Step 6
Go up to the Menu and go to the Layer menu. Select New Live Filter Layer > Colors > Vignette.
Step 7
In the Layers Panel, make sure the Vignette layer is at the very top of everything. And, make sure it’s not nested inside of another layer.
Step 8
Now, set the Live Vignette layer to the following properties (or you can adjust it to your own likeness).
Step 9
Go to File > Place and select the brown canvas image you downloaded. Drag the image over the current image so that it covers the whole thing.
Step 10
Finally, select the brown canvas image. In the Layers Panel, go to Blend Mode. Select Screen

Bonus Steps
Go to Unsplash and download the picture of the cracked cement photo. I was playing around with some effects and came across another picture I thought looked cool with this design. So, I decided to add it.
Step 1
After you download the image. Go to File > Place and select the cracked cement photo.
Step 2
Now, stretch the photo across the other picture so that it covers it.
Step 3
With the cement picture selected, go to the Blend Mode and select Vivid Light. Set the Opacity to 15%.
